Cowboy Up at Fish & Cross Ranch

The Cowboy Way isn’t just a motto—it’s how we live. At Fish & Cross Ranch, our days are built around hard work, family, and honoring western traditions. From raising cattle in the Colorado Rockies to sharing stories by the fire, we live by faith, heritage, and the code of the cowboy.
Our Past
Fish & Cross Ranch carries a rich cattle history, once known as the Lazy EH Ranch. Since the mid-1900s, ranchers have used this land for grazing, with the operation peaking in the 1980s when more than 2,500 yearling steers were run here. Under Lazy EH management, 500–600-pound steers and feeder heifers thrived on the ranch’s irrigated meadows and lush green grass, later growing into feeder-weight cattle through partnerships in Arizona. Today, Fish & Cross Ranch is committed to preserving the Cowboy Way and keeping this proud agricultural heritage an essential part of our program.
Our Future
We are actively exploring innovative ways to buy, raise, and market cattle for beef production. In our first year, we launched with a grass-lease program that proved highly successful. Our irrigated meadows and world-class grass, nourished by water flowing at 89 cubic feet per second, provide an ideal environment for cattle to thrive. For details on current grass leasing opportunities, please give us a call.
Ranch Life in the Rockies
Our ranch sits in the heart of Colorado, where wide-open skies and mountain air shape daily life. Here, cattle graze on healthy pastures, and ranch-raised quarter horses stand ready for the work ahead. Every day brings the rhythm of chores, care for livestock, and the satisfaction of stewardship. This is authentic western living, the kind that connects past to present. Visit our photo gallery to see pictures of life on the ranch.

Horses & Horsemanship
Quarter horses are more than animals—they’re partners. On the Fish & Cross Ranch, our horses embody strength, agility, and loyalty. Whether working cattle, leading a trail ride, or training young riders, these horses carry forward the traditions of the cowboy way.

We maintain a herd of about forty horses, ranging from gentle trail companions to seasoned Rocky Mountain ranch-raised geldings. This diversity allows us to match riders and prospective buyers of every skill level with the right horse. Nearly all of our horses are cow-savvy—experienced in roping, packing, cutting, and sorting—and every one of them has logged countless miles on rugged trails. We specialize in Harlan Line Rocky Mountain Quarter Horses, featuring Colonel Freckles and Rhone Traci bloodlines. These horses combine beauty with proven ability in the pasture, arena, and cattle work, making them outstanding all-around prospects.
The same horses that carry us through daily ranch work are the ones we trust to guide guests on unforgettable trail rides across the Rockies. Find out more below.
Cowboy Way Events & Hospitality
We love sharing the western lifestyle with others. Through our partner, Pack Country Outfitters, we host events and trail rides that let visitors experience ranch life up close. Whether you’re learning to rope, enjoying a family gathering, or exploring Colorado from horseback, you’ll find that hospitality is at the heart of the cowboy code.

Faith, Heritage, the Cowboy Way
