Snow-covered La Sal Mountains rising above red and brown desert formations near Moab, Utah.

View from Moab

On our last drive from Colorado to Arizona, we stopped in Moab for a short break. While Al filled up the tank, I caught sight of this stunning snow-covered mountain rising out of the red and brown desert landscape — and couldn’t resist snapping a picture.

We’ve made the trip often enough now that instead of just marveling at the view, I finally wondered what mountain that was. A quick Google image search gave me the answer — and I was impressed by how spot-on the results were!

It turns out, this breathtaking scene is the La Sal Mountains in Utah. They’re the state’s second-highest mountain range, sitting just southeast of Arches National Park and east of Canyonlands. If you’ve ever driven Highway 191 near Moab, you’ve probably seen them too — white peaks framed by deep red mesas and that endless blue Utah sky.

Moab never fails to surprise me. Every trip brings something new to admire — or rediscover.
