Retro Charm and Sunshine: A Stop in Palm Springs

Retro Charm and Sunshine: A Stop in Palm Springs

We’ve been on the road quite a bit lately—truth be told, more gone than home. When Al headed to the ACT Convention in Anaheim, we decided to make a little detour through Palm Springs.

We stayed at the Triada Palm Springs, a charming Spanish-style hotel tucked into the heart of town. It had all the makings of a perfect getaway. Cozy suites, colorful tilework, and just the right touch of old Hollywood glamour. Our room even had a full kitchen, which made it feel more like a small apartment than a hotel. It was the kind of place you want to linger a while longer. Next time, we just might.

Palm Springs itself is a very retro town—so much fun to wander. The houses looked like something straight out of the 1960s, the kind I remember from old TV shows. I half expected Ricky and Lucy or Rob and Laura to step out and wave from the porch.

As we walked downtown, the sidewalks sparkled with stars honoring legends like Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Della Reese. Each one a little time capsule from the golden days of Hollywood.

When evening rolled around, we found a small sushi spot just off the main road called Ponzu. What a gem! I ordered a sashimi sampler called Triple Belly. Scrumptious! Al went for a nigiri plate with ten different kinds of fish. And the seaweed salad—light, crisp, and refreshing—was the perfect finish.

It was one of those short stays that remind you why travel matters. New places, familiar echoes of the past, and good food shared with someone you love.
