September ranch life in Yampa Valley starts before the sun, when Al heads out scouting for elk. Watching him go as the sky turned from gray to gold is a picture I never get tired of. He’s been slipping back out again at dusk too, when the light fades and the hills go quiet, the perfect times to spot movement along the ridges.
Second Arrow
There’s a buzz of energy around the lodge this September ranch life in Yampa Valley brings, especially during second arrow season. Our new cook has fit right in—she’s got a way with a skillet and a knack for hearty meals that send everyone out the door smiling and full.
Hobbies
I carved out some time for the store today, still tinkering with Printify and trying to make it tie into the website without feeling clunky. After that, I worked on my current crochet project. Finally pulling out my yarn and hook since my hand surgery. I’m a bit slower than I used to be, but I’m back at it and that’s enough.
Outdoors in Yampa Valley
Later, we planted bulbs and wildflowers on a slope that’s been looking too bare, hoping spring will surprise us with color. We also spent time in the family cemetery, keeping it tidy and remembering the roots that run deeper than the aspens around us. Golden aspens are everywhere now, wrapping September ranch life in Yampa Valley in its autumn cloak.
