Cows, Calves, & a whole lot of skipping!

Cows, Calves, & a whole lot of skipping!

n the springtime, I love seeing the cows out with their babies. Calves are just so full of personality. They skip—yes, skip!—and it makes me laugh every single time.

Sometimes they chase each other across the pasture like a bunch of kids on recess. Other times, you’ll find them all huddled up with one cow, looking for all the world like a kindergarten class crowding around their favorite teacher.

And then there are the curious ones who wander in front of the truck and can’t quite figure out how to get out of the way. They zigzag back and forth until one of them finally spots an escape route, and then the whole bunch follows.

There’s a sweetness to spring on the ranch that never gets old—new life, fresh grass, and the kind of laughter that comes from watching a calf discover its legs for the first time.

Here’s some interesting information on how calving times are chosen. I’ve got soooo much to learn!
