Trixie and Puck’s Busy Day on the Ranch – A Heartfelt New Children’s Book from Fish & Cross Ranch

There’s a special kind of energy that runs through the Fish & Cross Ranch. The steady hum of chores, the call of cattle, the rhythm of boots on dirt. For years, two dogs made sure that rhythm came with a whole lot of love and laughter: Trixie and Puck.

Both have since crossed the rainbow bridge, but they left behind pawprints far deeper than any mud puddle. They were true partners — loyal, curious, and always in on the action. Rounding up strays, waiting patiently on the porch, or keeping watch under a starlit sky. They made ranch life fuller in ways only good dogs can.

I wanted to honor that — to let their stories keep running. That’s how the new children’s book series, Trixie the Ranch Dog, was born.

The first book is Trixie and Puck’s Busy Day on the Ranch. It brings these two back to life in watercolor and words. Follow them through a full day’s adventure on the ranch. You’ll find them chasing sounds in the barn, helping with chores (in their own way!), and learning the rhythms of ranch life. This book is a gentle introduction for little ones. An introduction to the world of hard work, faith, and the Cowboy Way. And it’s all seen through the eyes of two unforgettable dogs.

This project is deeply personal. It’s a way to share the joy Trixie and Puck brought into our lives, and to keep their stories running right alongside ours.

Trixie and Puck’s Busy Day on the Ranch will be available soon through Amazon soon. Stay tuned for updates, order details, and a few sneak peeks from behind the scenes of this new series.

Because on the ranch — and in our hearts — Trixie and Puck’s adventures are far from over.

Author’s Note

Trixie and Puck were more than just ranch dogs — they were family. Meet Trixie, a black mouth cur with a big heart and even bigger personality. Then, there’s Puck. A gentle black lab who never left Al’s side. Their spirits continue to teach us. Loyalty, patience, and finding joy in the simplest things. A sunrise, a muddy trail, or a good nap in the shade.

Writing their stories lets me keep them close and share some of their goodness with the next generation. I hope these books make children smile. And just maybe remind grown-ups of the dogs who’ve left special paw prints on their own hearts.
